What To Expect
Your First Visit
Your first visit to our pediatric dental office is all about fun, smiles, and making you feel right at home! You’ll get to meet our super-friendly team and dentist, watch a movie during your gentle cleaning, and even take cool pictures of your teeth with our special X-rays. We’ll count your teeth, give them a sparkle with a cleaning and fluoride, and talk about how to keep your smile healthy. Before you leave, you’ll pick a prize from our treasure chest—and don’t worry, we’ve got toys and surprises waiting just for you!
After A Filling
After you get a filling, your mouth might feel a little sleepy or tingly from the special medicine we use—but that feeling will go away soon! Your tooth is now strong and healthy, and you can go back to smiling, playing, and having fun. Just be careful not to chew on the numb side or eat anything too crunchy until the feeling comes back. If your tooth feels a little different at first, that’s normal—and our friendly team is always here if you need us!
After An Extraction
After you have a tooth taken out (an extraction), your mouth might feel a little sore or sleepy for a bit, but that’s totally normal! We’ll give you special instructions to help you heal, like biting on gauze and taking it easy with eating and playing for the day. If it becomes a little sore after the numbness wears off, you might want to take some tylenol to help with the soreness. Stick to soft foods, brush carefully around the extraction site, and keep the area clean so it heals quickly. Our team can answer any questions or concerns you might have before or after your appointment—plus, you’ll go home with a prize for being so brave!
With Valium
If your dentist recommends Valium to help you feel calm for your child’s visit, it’s just to make sure you’re relaxed and comfortable the whole time! Take the Valium an hour before your visit with us. You might feel sleepy, silly, or extra calm—kind of like you’re floating on a cloud. You’ll still be awake, but the dental visit will feel easier and faster. Make sure a parent stays with you all day, and plan to rest at home after—lots of cozy time, movies, and maybe even a treat!
If Your Child Has Special Needs
We understand that every child is unique, and we’re here to make their dental visit as comfortable and positive as possible. Our team takes extra time to get to know your child’s needs, create a calm environment, and move at a pace that works best for them. We offer options to help your child feel safe and lots of patience, kindness, and encouragement. You’re welcome to bring comfort items, and we’ll work closely with you to create a plan that helps your child feel supported, and successful!
During Your Child’s Growth and Tooth Development
Your child’s first tooth usually pops through around 6 months old, and by age 3, most little ones have a full set of baby teeth ready to shine! Kids typically start losing their baby teeth as early as age 4 or as late as age 8—it’s all part of their unique growing journey. Around age 8 or 9, we’ll recommend a visit to the orthodontist to check how the adult teeth are coming in and make sure everything is on track. Our team will guide you every step of the way with regular check-ups, helpful tips, and lots of encouragement for your child’s growing smile!
When Bringing Your Toddler
Bringing your toddler to the dentist is all about creating a fun and positive first experience! It is completely normal for your little one to feel nervous for their first couple of visits until they get used to it. We’ll count their teeth, take a quick peek at how things are growing, and give tips on brushing, eating, and healthy habits—all in a playful, low-pressure way. Your little one can sit in the chair, explore the office, and even pick a prize, all while we build trust and comfort. Don’t worry if there are wiggles or tears—we’re here with patience, smiles, and a gentle approach every step of the way!
If Your Child Has Dental Anxiety
If your child feels nervous about the dentist, you’re not alone—and we’re here to help make the experience calm, gentle, and even fun! Our team takes extra time to explain everything in kid-friendly ways, using comforting words, visuals, and positive distractions like movies or toys. We offer a relaxed pace, lots of praise, and techniques like “tell-show-do” to build trust and ease fears. Whether it’s their first visit or they’ve had a tough experience in the past, we’ll work together to help your child.
Teething or Early Tooth Concerns
Teething usually starts around 6 months of age and can come with drooling, fussiness, and a strong urge to chew—that’s all normal as your baby’s first teeth begin to appear! You can help soothe sore gums with a cool teether or a gentle gum massage using a clean finger. If you notice anything unusual, such as bumps, delayed teeth, or discoloration, we’re here to check things out and answer your questions. Early dental visits help us catch concerns early and set the stage for a lifetime of healthy smiles!
